Every year, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, my husband and I trim the tree and put up all of our Christmas decorations. We both love Christmas and want to get things up.
Now, I hear some of my more conservative Catholic friends muttering to themselves that I shouldn't have put up decorations now. That I should wait until Advent is over before getting ready for Christmas. To them I would reply that putting up decorations is part of my preparation for Christmas, and isn't that what Advent is about? Preparing for Christmas? It doesn't mean I don't celebrate Advent and enjoy that season as well. It just means that The lights and the tree and all the decorations are in anticipation of Christmas day.

Anyhow, I digress. So, today, Chris carried up all of our boxes from the basement filled with our tree, ornaments, stockings, and other miscellaneous decor. While my lovely husband diligently worked on putting up the tree (yes, we use plastic mainly because I am highly allergic to pine trees of any variation), I removed my fall table setting and put out the Christmas setting. We bought a wreath with lights on it that I decorated with ribbon and hung over the fire place. I put out all the other little decorations, and then I helped finish up the tree. The whole time we were working on this we had Christmas music playing in the background.
How I love this time of year!
Maybe I'll post pictures when I finally get ours finished. Looks great!!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm in total agreement with your second paragraph! I've already "gotten into it" with some people about that very issue!
This is going to be such a fun Christmas with Ginny. Her face is going to light up with all of the pretty decorations. I love seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child!
I'd love to see your pictures Gin! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support, Maria! Recently there was an article on our Diocesan website that encouraged people to celebrate Advent by not putting up decorations until a week before Christmas. It makes no sense to me, but I guess all of us have our own individual ways of preparing for Christmas. ;)
